TailRoute — Privacy Policy

_Last updated: 2026-11-01_ TailRoute is built privacy-first. Your dog's data stays on your devices and in your own iCloud account — there is no TailRoute server, no third-party analytics, and no advertising.

What the app stores

**Walks & health diary**: routes (GPS points), distance, duration, logged

events, notes, photos, and your pet's profile (name, breed, birthday, weight, medical notes). Stored locally with SwiftData and synced across your own iPhone and Apple Watch via CloudKit (your private iCloud database).

**Settings**: reminder times, safety contact, preferences (on-device).

Permissions we ask for, and why

**HealthKit** — to record each walk as a workout and read walking distance/

energy for accurate metrics. TailRoute does not share your health data with anyone; it is written to and read from Apple Health on your device.

**Location (While Using)** — to record the walk route. During a walk the active

workout session keeps GPS running so the track is complete; route recording runs only while a walk is in progress. The Places guide can also use your location, with permission, to sort nearby places and open walking directions.

**WeatherKit** — to fetch local temperature for the heat-safety advisory. Only

coordinates needed for the forecast are sent to Apple's Weather service.

**Notifications** — for walk/medication reminders and the optional dead-man's

switch alert. Scheduled locally on your device.

**Photos** — only the photos you explicitly pick for your pet or an event are

imported; TailRoute has no access to your library otherwise.

What we do not do

We do not run our own servers or collect your data centrally.
We do not use third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
We do not sell or share your data.

Maps, weather and on-device insights

Apple Maps and WeatherKit provide maps, directions and forecasts under Apple's privacy terms. The Barcelona city guide is bundled with the app and uses OpenStreetMap data. Optional Apple Intelligence summaries are generated on-device. Family and walker profiles can be managed on devices using your own iCloud account. Sharing between separate iCloud accounts is not currently available.

Your control

Delete a walk, event, pet, or photo at any time in the app.
Export your data as GPX, CSV, or a PDF report to keep your own copy.
Deleting the app does not automatically delete your private iCloud data. Manage

that data in your iCloud settings or delete records from within the app.
